1/4 window covers

Just picked up an '89 GT with some pretty nasty 1/4 window moldings. I would just replace them with some junkyard pieces, but I'm guessing anything I find there will probably be just about as bad. I've heard you can pull them out, and sand them down and paint them, but these might be beyond that (FL car).
I've heard there are actual "covers" you can buy to put over the 1/4's. Anyone have any experience with these?

The covers are made by Steeda...and they blow. The proper terminology is window mouldings.

Are they poor looking or just fit badly? I don't want them if that's the case. Guess I'll keep my eyes open for some more easily repairable mouldings. Thanks.

Well...I ordered a set, and they were actually real shiny looking...which looks tacky, and they came w/ 1 tube of silicone-type adhesive. The adhesive didnt hold for ****. I believe a dried booger would have cured better. Either swap out the windows, or do the sanding method. I sanded mine, and they look great.
