    Hey all,

Just had my 1987 Mustang GT 5-speed dynoed after a bunch of work- 306 keith craft, federal mogul pistons, AFR heads, roller rockers, bbk long tubes, bassani x-pipe, flowmaster cat-back, C&L intake, 75mm MAF, 70mm throttle body, 24lb inj, cam, edelbrock upper and lower, and full Accel ignition.

Grand total after chip and "dyno tune"...291 rwhp!?

That just seems low to me. Anybody have any insight into this? Car runs great, but I thought there was more there after all the mods.

What can I do to eek some more out of her? timing? Any suggestions. I also dont feel like the shop did a great deal of "tuning" while i was there.

    Thanks,

    Carl

Sounds just about right...I left my session with 291/316 and was disapointed too. It wasn't untill I spent some real time looking at 302/306 combo's that I found high 285-305 to be the average with near every combination..though some guys always tend to post killer numbers they are not the standard by a long shot. To tweek you could look at an Efan and a more aggressive tune with maybe a higher octane fuel..both of which I am now running and expect to see 300 on the next set of pulls in the fall. Don't be disapointed...dyno numbers are just numbers..you might be 15 higher next time for no reason at all...they are great tuning items but do not represent what the car is able to do.

I am shocked because that seems 20 rwhp high to me.

Just curious as to what the difference is between a Mustang dyno, and a Dynojet. I Dynoed 270/290 at the rear wheels with the items in my sig on a mustang dyno.

supposivly the numbers will be a little lower on the mustang dyno but they tune your car based on the weight and everything(correct me if im wrong)

I built a 302 stock shortblock from a '01 mountaineer, GT40 cobra heads ported and polished, stock mustang gt cam retarded 4 degrees, 1.72rr's, cobra R intake, 30# injectors, 75mm tb and maf, bbk headers, pro chamber..... put it in a 95 gt, no tune, dynoed in at 281 horse 315 tq at the wheels, so I think that you're still a little low......

Looks like its in the right ball park. Maybe a bit more to be had somewhere. Did you get AFR's with the sheet?

Are you kidding me? Thats high compared to what I usually hear! In the mustang club Im a member of, in the county, I have the second highest NA 5.0 DD numbers in the club at 268, the highest guy pushes like 275, but on a 5-speed versus my AOD. Youre doing fine. But I do believe there is more to get out of your combo, you have really good parts.

Post a dyno chart, with air/fuel. I'll bet you can tweak the A/F and timing and one or two other little things, and get some better numbers out of it.

I am planning on taking the car to Anderson Ford Motorsports for a tune. I think they will be able to tune my car a bit more effectively than the shop I went to initially.

    thanks guys

Can't say I'd expect to be finding much more power in an eec-4 system....unless they go through the tune with a fine-toothed comb and tweak the fuel and timing line by line and that kind of labor time is gonna cost ya....

From what I see of most tuners, they throw a wideband on it and if the A/F is good, they don't touch it....if it's off all the way across, they do a simple fp adjustment...if it's off in one point they do it in the ecu. If that's good, then they check base timing....they might add a few degrees of total and see if that helps, that's about it as far as I know.
