Thing about the horsepower wars though is that they will be limited. The reason the Camaro/bird got killed in '02 is because GM quit advertising it because they didn't want their name in front of a 12 second car and all of the deaths causing insurance to skyrocket. Too many redneck idiots went out and beat the piss out of those cars, wrapped them around poles, trees, whatever, and insurance rates soared, GM quit advertising them, and that was that. Trust me, we are in for a repeat of that, with added CAFE fuel economy pressure. THESE are the glory days of the horsepower wars; they won't last forever, as soon as prices trickle down enough for idiots to afford them and total them and kill themselves, they will be scaled back. The way I see it, is the first year you see horsepower ratings drop even by five, buy one and hang onto it because it will only be downhill from there. So on that note, knowing this won't last forever, I'd be hard pressed not to buy a new GT if I could.
But back to the topic of the new V6 cars and all the stunners that will be driving them like they are Billy Badass...
THIRTY GRAND for a freaking junky base V6 is INSANE.
Since when did a ****ty base model V6 Mustang become a $30k car? The GT will at least hold its value a decent bit, but that $30k V6 will be $15k within two years, and $8k another two years later with their crappy pizza cutters and stickers. Then they will just be junked out base model beaters run into the ground by high school kids and stunners who know nothing about cars but think their shAt doesn't stink (usually the case with V6 guys IME from any camp).
I mean seriously, who would buy a V6 Mustang? It's a complete oxymoron, even at 300 hp. At the end of the day, it still is a V6, sounds like a cruddy V6, makes no torque, has limited potential, isn't desirable now and never will be, and worst of all, it still looks like a V6, which is probably the biggest sin. It also doesn't get all that much better mileage than a GT, which is something most V6 people never realize no matter how many times you tell them, and if you care about mileage why waste $30k on a base Mustang? Go get a Honda.
V6 cars always look like junk compared to V8 cars, so who cares. Let Jonny Highschool think he's a badass in his girls' car. End of the day, even if his is faster, it's still a crappy V6 and it still looks like a crappy V6. Every time I see one, it's like "Oh, it's just a lame V6." Yawn.
The older GT is a better package, even if it's slower IMO. I'd take my loaded '98 GT with factory 17s, leather, and Mach 460 anyday over a new V6.
A new GT though, *droooool*
