You're wrong. Even MT themselves says their 275 ETSR will fit a 9" wheel, and also "Acceptable practice for rim width plus or minus 1''." So there ya go...lol.
275/40/17 MT et street radials will fit fine. They will be a bit scrunched but you can play with the pressure till they wear correctly (greatest contact patch possible).
It will fit, but it will be bulging out. Just because they fit doesn't mean it's an optimal fit. You probably won't get a good contact patch, and the car will not handle all that great. I never had good results with 275/40 on an 8'' rim. Try it out though.
They are a bitch to mount but I have 275/40/17's w/8 inch on my car. They bulge a bit and tended to be a little squirrelly when I first had them on but I'm used to them now.

okay technically im wrong u can "fit" it on there, hell if you work on the machine long enough and seat it right u can put 295's on there too - but it's not a good match, im still right.
