28oz vs50oz Flywheel

There would be an advantage to going with a 28oz flywheel, only if the crank was balanced to 28oz, because it would be less rotating mass. However if you were to throw a 28oz on a flywheel thats balanced to 50oz, it will bend over and rape your engine.

what year is your motor? cause ive got a 28oz flywheel in my car... but the motor is a 74. i think 81 was the last year for the 28oz balance.[/Q]

Early 302s and 289 used a 28oz balance. I am unsure of the exact year ford switch to 50oz balance. Don't put a 28oz balance on a 50 oz balanced motor. 28oz balances are also used on stroker kits if not building a high revving strip motor. Then with forged guts an internal balance is recommended.

81 was the switch. so pre 81 302s are 28.2oz balance, and 81+ are 50oz
