I have a 351w (91) that i'm gonna be throwing in this winter & I have most everything figured out except the clutch/flywheel.

I figure I have 3 options:
Rebalance stock flywheel & use standard 10.5" clutch
Use FMS unit & use standard 10.5" clutch
Use a 11'' clutch(early car/truck) or 10'' clutch(early mustang) with a 164 tooth flywheel from an early 302/351

The main issue is will it work with the t-5 (ie most 11 clutches are hyd actuated & mustangs are cable) & fit within the stock bell.

I'm trying to do this on the cheap, so I prefer to use a stock fly & pick up a new clutch b/c my existing one is already toast. I know with the 164 i'll need a new starter to which is a non issue since I have one already.

Any feedback?
Thanks

At this point it's more about keeping the car on the road, than making HP. The 306 is slowly on it's way out & I need something I can throw together on the cheap & keep driving.

I need to do it fairly soon, b/c not only is the motor going but the clutch is slipping too. So high HP is not a main concern at the moment.

I have the proper pan/pick-up, dizzy, intake & balancer. All I need now is headers, & clutch/flywheel set up.

Any help anyone?
Thanks
Mike

from what I understand a stock mustang clutch will work with a 351w assuming that it has the proper bolt pattern & inbalance (28oz).

that means you need an FMS specific flywheel or rebalance a 50oz fly to 28 specs.

I use 5.0L clutch's on my 351w. I ordered a 351w center force flywheel that will fit in a t-5 belhousing.
I believe this is the one i got:
FORD / MERCURY - SPECIAL APPLICATIONS
4.7L 289", 5.0L 302" & 5.8L 351" ENG.

4.7L 289", 5.0L 302" & 5.8L 351" ENG. 157 YES 700221 23.3 - - 7 13.294
1963-79 ENG. 28 IN/OZ BAL. FOR USE WITH 1981-95 PASS CAR T5 TRANS / 10.4" CLUTCH
But call Center force and tell them what you are doing because they make a SFI race approved flywheel for this swap.

I used a rebalanced Mustang flywheel with a McLeod 800 series clutch on my 351W, then switched up to a steel Ford Racing flywheel with the 28.2 oz external balance. Both worked fine, though with the abuse I gave the car I always worried about that cast flywheel coming apart, which is why I switched it out. The McLeod clutch was awesome though.
