3rd & 4th Gear really loose

i have a 1982 mustang gt 4 speed and it has 87530 on it and my 3rd and 4th gears are really loose. once it is in gear i can move it around a lot without it coming out of gear. What can i do to fix this or should i just throw in a different one like a 5 speed? Thanks

the stock shifter for those 4 speeds are pretty bad. they are a 2 peice design. theres a rubber bushing that sperates the 2. probably bad im assuming the way you describe it. had one of them in my 84 and it did that until the 2 peices came apart one day lol. all i did was pulled the rubber peice out and welded the 2 metal peices of the shifter handle together and worked out great.
