here's the equation:

Engine cubic displacement equals the volume displaced by the piston from the bottom of it's stroke to the top of its stroke multiplied by the number of cylinders.
(3.14159/4) X (bore radius squared) X stroke X number of cylinders = total cubic displacement


4.6L: 3.55 bore X 3.54 stroke

3.14159/4 = .7853975
3.57x3.57 = 12.7449 (bore squared) (includes .020 over-bore)

.7853975 X 12.7449 X 3.54 X 8 = 283.48
