40 w gear oil

I rebuilt My T-5 but im getting a little bit a grinding in 3rd and 4th. I have ATF in it right now and im gonna put some 40 w gear oil in it to see if it solves the problem.
Any suggestions?

If you put Gear Oil in it then you will be Rebuilding it again VERY shortly as the T5 only takes Mercon ATF.

Gear oil is too thick, and will only make shifting stiffer and wil make the trans act up worse. You obviously did something wrong while rebuilding it.

Gear oil will starve the bearings of lubrication and you'll toast them. Result will be a very noisy T-5.

When you rebuilt the trans, did you check the dog teeth on the 3rd gear and inout shaft as well as the synchro ring, or did you just change the blocker rings only

Hmmm... perhaps if my engine were running rough, I might try diesal fuel instead of gasoline.

Stick with the fluids that are intended for the application. Also, try adjusting your clutch cable (tighten).
