460 in a Fox

www.bigblockfox.com has a pretty good data base of information and links to companies specializing in this sort of swap.

Some were commenting on how much larger the 460 is than a 302 or 351. That is true, however, folks are dropping in 32v DOHC Cobra engines in their foxes...which are much larger than the 460's.

A stock 460 can vary quite a bit in power output depending upon the year and vehicle it originally came in. Most folks that I have seen on bigblockfox.com have replaced or reworked the heads, bored and stroked them out further, and so on. Relatively small changes in the head-cam-intake combo often result in significant increases in power output. The heads are always a weak point, unless you have the 3-grand for a set of nice aluminum race heads. A small amount of nitrous goes a long way.

C6 3-speeds automatics work well, but do consume quite a bit of your power. Many have opted for a "racing" C4. It's a little smaller and consumes less of your power. You can now get these transmissions with an add on module which makes it a 4-speed overdrive. Saw it on "OverHaulin'" recently.

The added front-end weight often results in handling and traction issues. A tubular K-member/control arm/coil-over will help, as will, adjusting the rear control arm mounting points for better geometry.

I've considered the swap many times. Just no money or time to do it.
