5.0 Conversion in 65 Mustang

Hi Friends,
I'm close to firing her up but need tech advice. I purchased an HEI Distributor from Summit. There are 3 ways to hook it up. I have the resistor wire under dash, (not sure which is the resistor wire). Summit said to check for 9 volts at the wire. If I find it and there is not 9 volts, how do I proceed. Is there a simpler way to do this? Summit supplied an external ballast resistor, but I can't use it with that wire still in play. This shade tree mech appreciates any input. Thanks

The directions for the dist should have a couple of alternatives for wiring listed....

Are you planning for a 'just in case here'? Do you have a wiring diagram for the car? That should help you find the one you need under the dash..
