65 289 oil pump drive shaft clip?

hi..i found out what was the problem with my 65 coupe.
the oilpump driveshaft twisted off at the pump...
and i remember from working on my 68 that there was a clip on the shaft..sure enough i found the clip in the oil pan..so where does this clip go.. i am only working on this from the bottom side...also what other concerns should i have that might of caused the pump to lock..and how can i lube this engine properly since it has been sitting for awhile.. ? thanks..

check your pump screen to see if there anything that got suck'd in the pump, then open the pump to see what jammed it.If its a stock drive, they are weak and will twist with a HV pump. The clip goes on the drive shaft, so it doesnt pull out with the distributor, so after the pump, before the block on the shaft

The most common source of the material that locked your pump are parts of valve stem seals, and small pieces of the nylon gear on the camshaft. Inspect that oil pump carefully, it makes no sense to just bolt it all back together again only to have it fail again because of other parts floating around in your engine.
