I went to Fairway Ford in Yorba Linda, Ca on Friday and they were kind enough to pull their '05 GT next to my '65 FB so I could get a few pics.

I can't help but thinking how big the '05 looks in these pics. To be honest, my impression of the '05 was it's bulkier than I expected (looks short and fat), but I didn't like the previous model mustang either at first but it grew on me...maybe this one will too. Not trying to bash the new 'stang...just some first impressions.

I've seen it in person next to a 04, it's noticeably larger.

The '05 is closer in styling and size to the '69 which is also larger than the '65.

Nice pics. Your car is a beaut. Makes me think the 05 would look a lot better without those clear covers over the headlights.

Are those rims (on the '05) an option?...or are they a custom install by that dealer?

By the way, they are both very nice looking cars.

I own some early Mustangs, and there's no way that the 65-68's could be marketable in today's world due to cramped interior dimensions, bad ingress/egress. I've found that some classic owners are in a deep state of "denial" on this, but for the most part if you're over 6-feet, sitting in a 65-68 Mustang is a knees-out experience, even with the seat all the way back. I put up with it because that's just the way it goes, and I love driving my cars, but.... it just wouldn't fly in a new car. 69-70 Mustangs are FAR FAR better in the legroom department, which is why they are my favorite for driving (69-70 Mach 1 seats are the comfiest too!). The '05 certainly does look bigger, but I think the improved all-around space inside and in the trunk is welcome and will help the car sell alot better. As for the rear, I love it, don't think it's huge at all. The high beltline in the rear helps enormously with aerodynamics. Anybody who's ever piloted a 65-70 Mustang to speeds over 100 mph can relate with me when I say it's a harrowing experience, the tail get's SUPER light, and there's lift up front too! LOL! It's like the whole damn car is coming off the road, and you start steering it like a sailboat. In any event, form follows function, and I've got to believe that the new Mustang's size and proportions have ALOT to do with function. VERY cool pics, and I must say, that's one of the sharpest '65's Ive ever seen. Very tasteful.

Nice pics - a good comparison. I love how the 05 has the spoiler delete option, making it more like your 65 FB. Auburnman: Those wheels are standard GT wheels. The polished wheels that we see in most press photos are actually an option.

In regards to the size issue, new cars are required to be larger for both safety and aerodynamics reasons. 65 stangs have skinny doors and sharp creases - neither of which help in side impacts or aerodynamics tests, respectively. Also, if you check out the reviews in the automotive press, you'll see that the increased interior room is highly praised. So, it is a bigger car, but the size is well-used.

Man ... the 05 is ugly without the wing ... I would never get it that way.

I agree with you RICKS, 1000%

I have had a number of "classic" cars including 2 '67 Mustangs?

Ever drive a '67 - 289 Mustang HI-PO K-code with headers and NO A/C on a 1,000 mile, non-stop trip (other than gas and relief) in the last week of July?

I have, but I was young and stupid when I did it. :D

Talk about sittting in a torture chamber. :notnice:

BLKFRD - Your 65 looks really nice :nice:

It's interesting to compare the too.

The 1st thing that sticks out is how upright the windshield on the 65 is. Amazing how sleek a 65 looks until its parked next to a modern car.

It is also suprising how much larger the '05 looks, because it really isn't that much bigger than a 65

    Dim.......'65........'05
    Length..181.6....187.6
    Width.....68.2.....72.1
    Height....51.0.....54.5

Those pics really show how they incorporated all years from '65 to '70.
    The roofline is 65/66 fastback.
Quarter window: 66 Shelby. (I love the fact that you added that to your 65)
    Front end: 69/70
Overall size, shape and look: 69/70
    Interior- dash especially: 67/68
Fog lights: 67/68 Shelby, 65-68 GT
    Front "gills": 65/66

Man, it's gonna be hard to top THIS Mustang.
Can't wait to see what they do in 5 or 6 years!

I had forgotten how great those 65's and 66's looked. NICE!!! I really thought the two of them looked great together, and neither one has a line out place as far as I am concerned.

    Thanks for the pics!!!

The guys at that dealer have been known to be really cool. What a fantastic pic, and I also didn't care for the 94 Mustang and it grew on me. ( now own a 95 ) disliked what they did to 99, then owned a 2002. Now for the 05. I have yet to totally fall in love but that show on Discovery channel last month, "Back to the track" made me want to go out and buy a new white 05, gut it and spend whatever I had to purchase that new Ford crate motor!

Depending on the "rumors" surrounding whether or not we will get a new Mustang Cobra will just have to keep me and my wants on the shelf for the time being.

Actually, your picture solidifies the fact that I still want a loud, hot, smelly fast 65 or 66 real GT350. Nice pics.
