'71 302 Firing Order, Oil Type, Etc.

The firing order of the 71 302 is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 and I am fairly certain that Ford used that firing order for all 302 engines they produced over the years. The engine takes 5 quarts of oil of mutiple grades. I usually use 10w-30.

Well, Ford used the 351 Windsor firing order 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 for the HO 5.0 liter 302s using the roller camshafts, and did so until the engine was discontinued. Non-roller 302s during this period remained the earlier firing order from what I hear.

The non H.O. roller cammed engines also used the 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 firing order, except for the 94-97 pickup truck/van 5.0's. They shared the same F4TE roller cam that the Explorer/Mountaineer H.O. motor used, which used the 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 order.
