I have an '85 GT I bought new. I have always had carb problems. I recently bought a new Edelbrock #1406 carb. I installed it and it starts & runs good, but it idles way too fast, like 2500 RPM. I am wondering if I can just loose all the emission vacuum stuff and just have vacuum advance and vacuum to power brakes. Do I need to loose the EGR plate? Has any one done something like this? HELP!

check the choke linkage to see if it is preventing the engine from idling down there should be a high idle kick down lever that will hold the idle up. You might try to temporarily block off the smog equip. and just run the advance and booster vacuum lines like you were saying to see if that fixes your possible vacuum leak. The pcv needs to be operational or use breathers.
