the explorer engine will work however it will require a swap of IIRC timing cover oil pan and a few other items..someone will chime in. In return you get a set of GT40p heads and a intake upgrade...NOTE..you will need 'p' headers to use the gt40 heads.

Your friend is right. Explorers come with Gt-40/Gt-40P heads, a slightly different version of the Cobra Intake and a 65mm TB
