Just got a 96 Cobra to play around with and have two issues with the car. First, the steering squeaks when turning left to right, both when moving and stopped, but more pronounced when moving slowly or stopped. Second, there is a small amount of play in the steering wheel that is definately not supposed to be there. Havent checked the car out yet just wondering if anyone has an idea of what to look for when I get under there. Was leaning towards rack bushings for the squeak and possibly steering shaft for the play but wanted to get some opinions from people who have experience with these issues. TIA
I would look there and also look on top of the tie rod ends(the rubber part) as that can squeak too. I know mine was and they were the culprit.
Check your sway bar bushings. Open the hood, grab the radiator cradle and bounce it up and down, try it on both sides. Most likely its a dry bushing. -Steve-
