98 GT Instrument Cluster

I need some clarification one instrument clusters. I am in need of a new instrument cluster for my stang, I have a 98 GT. I have been told that only 98 GT clusters will work in a 98 GT. Is this true? There is one on ebay from a 97 GT and the circuit board on the back looks identical to mine with the same two connectors, will a 97 GT cluster work in a 98GT?

Why do you need a new cluster? And yes, i've heard the same thing - only 98 for the 98

ive not herd anything like that but they do have the same connectors for 96-98, cause the 99 mustangs went to coil over plug set up and the circuitry is different.

However the 99+ are electronic so that's an obvious difference

As for the 98 only exchanging for a 98...I really don't understand why a 96 or 97 wouldn't work.

Try looking at simcoltd.com . They have a cluster that fits 99-04. I'm not sure about about the 98 only fitting a 98 but I'm sure you could ask them. I have there cluster in my 03' and I love it.

I need a new cluster, too. I was thinking about a junk yard, but if I can find a good aftermarket one that is decently priced, I'd prefer that.

Anyone? Simco Ltd seems to only have the 99+

The temp gauge will not work if you install a 96-97 cluster in a 98. There are two wires on the temp circuit that need to be swapped. But you should be able to use the gauges or speedo from the 96-97 on your cluster if your circuit board is ok.
