I have a brand new set of 8mm plug wires I planned on installing tomorrow. Unfortunately I found out I can get a set of 9mm for the same price even though they told me they were "a lot more" when I asked for them originally (at O'Reilly Auto). These are Borg Warner Select #CH859 SuperMag wires. Is it really worth having 9mm wires? I can take these back and pick up a set of 9mm Ford Motorsport wires for no extra cost. Lower resistance.. easier on ignition components, more consistent spark? Worth the gas money to do the exchange?
I thought I should add, I searched the web for a comparison between the two but couldn't find any info. From all the advertising hype for 9mm wires I figured there would be some evidence of improvement.
9mm wires...the fart cans of ignition components. Given the same conductors, there really isn't any difference, other than the extra mm of insulation/jacket. Which may or may not be beneficial, depending on what it's made of.
Unless you're running a lightining-power equivlent ignition system, there's no need to go ANY higher than an 8.8mm wire. On the norm I use 8mm on all my stuff when i can. Stock applications are really all 7mm is good for. Now to determine a good wire, size is hardly as importand as the actual construction of the wire itself. Grab a MSD or Accel Catalog and flip to the back and read all the Tech articles that explain all the different types. You'll get thte gist of what's good and what's not and what will work best for your application.
what about the cap that puts all your left side wires on the left and all your right side wires on the right
