Given that gas remains a dollar above last years highs my fiance went looking for some fuel saving information. She stumbled upon this website

    http://www.pureenergysystems.com/news/2005/03/17/6900069_Acetone/

In the article on there it describes the benifits of using acetone as a fuel additive to help your engine burn more of the gas you put in it. Have any of you seen this information before? Have any of you tried this yourself?

Unless y'all think it's a bad idea I think I might try putting a little in the camary and do some experimenting. Boy if it worked it'd be freaking awesome. :)

Sounds like Snake oil. If this was sooo great, this guy would have pulled off some better experiments to back up his claims. Saying that people report better mileage, and my Metro did better doesn't mean a thing to me.

It's in such small quantities, though it can't hurt. Don't get your hopes up, though.

BTW: even HPLC grade acetone is only ~99.5% acetone.

acetone is a solvent, and some people might see an increase due to a cleaner intake tract, but other than that, we used it in a race car years ago to pass a fuel check. the car owner liked to add things to the fuel that were technically illegal cause it changed the specific weight of the gasoline we were using, and the acetone put us back to a legal specific weight.
