Hi, I'm finally getting some decent money put back for parts and of course i want to make the most of it, so i'm planning on looking around in the classifieds here and at other forums for parts. What sort of parts are generally ok to buy used and what parts arent? I would assume anything with moving parts is probably better bought new due to wear, but is this not always right? Any general advice on this subject is greatly appreciated! And to narrow it down, i'm talking about mainly bolt on and HCI stuff, i'm not worried about body work and rims etc, just wondering about everything else basically. Also, I'd like some advice on something else if anyone could offer it. My car is a 93 GT Hatch and in the back, right behind the back seat on both sides by the inner tire well, there are nobs coming from the floor. It looks as though they are there so that a rope could stretch between to secure something. I can unscrew the knobs and they come off, revealing a bold comeing from the floor. How are these bolts attached to the floor? I need them gone so that i can totally smooth the back area (basically gonna create a one piece floor). I tried pulling them up thinking maybe they were just pop things but nope, they're sturdy. Thanks for any help, sorry for the length. -E
i'd say cam, intakes and throttle body have less risk than others when buying used. A lot of people buy used heads too. The things i'd personally be leary about buying used are sensors, electrical components (fuel pump, etc), gears, short blocks, transmissions and maybe a couple other things. Those bolts are probably welded in...
Those bolts might be car seat anchors or anchors for the cargo net. I think there is a provision for them. They may just be threaded in from the bottom.
