Aluminum Diff Bushings (StangCobra93's) Install Question

Discussion in 'SVT Tech Forum' started by mosconiac, Aug 17, 2004.

  1. I'm installing aluminum differential bushings (front) and have one question before we press them in.

The installer tells me that the bushings have a 0.028" interference (bushing OD is 1.040" and the hole ID is 1.012").

Naturally, an interference fit is desired, but is 0.028" interference about right?

My car has been on the hoist for a day and a half while I wait on a response from StangCobra93. PLEASE HELP.
  2. You'd be less likely to break an ear off the differential if you heated the mounting ears (bosses) with a torch and put the bushings in the freezer to maximize the thermal expansion of the should be able thereafter to drop the bushings in with a little oil and a whack or two with a bearing driver.

    That's my approach.
