Paint and Body Antenna Base Replacement S197

My antenna snapped off and it appears that I need to replace the entire base and cable assembly. Does anyone know if the base can be separated from the cable or is it permanently attached? It would be much easier if I could remove the cable from the base and just replace the base without running a new cable through the firewall...etc. It looks like you must purchase the entire assembly. I unscrewed the base plate from the fender but the cable seems pretty secure, I didn't want to force it if its not made to come apart.
