Just realized I am paying comcast for "up to" 15mbps/3mbps. I have tried this speed test hooked directly to my comcast suggested cable modem and my wireless router. I have tried two, different computers, one is only a year old with hardly anything on it. I have tried multiple coax ports in my home. I have tried early in the morning, mid morning, afternoon, evening, and late evening....on both weekdays and weekends. No matter what, I get the same DL/UL speeds that I posted....within .02mbps. Seems like if I am paying for "up to" 15mbps/3mbps, that I should be getting more performance. Buddy of mine is on the same plan as me, he lives farther away from the server than I do and he gets 10-11mbps/2mbps. Time to call comcast and get the run around? Thinking I might need to switch to ATT.
If you can get them out there to fix it, I'm sure it can be fixed. Could be a bad modem. Could be a bad line. Could be a bad splitter. In any event, I would at least try to get someone out there before you make a change, unless you're unhappy otherwise and this was the tip of the iceburg.
comcast is having to come out for a service call on my system. They told me I needed to upgrade to a faster speed because I have two computers on my wireless router....wtf? download speed has stayed constant at 4.24 mb/s - regardless of the machine, the time of day, equipment used, if it was wireless or hardwired, this includes hooking directly to the cable from outside. Upload speed is .32-.36...same info as above. I am paying for "up to" 15mb DL and 6mb UL
Much better now.... It was as high as 19.67/3.98 earlier. Apparently, the wrong boot file was in the Comcast system. After comcast being for an hour checking the lines, it was as simple as calling someone and telling them to run the new boot file on the Comcast end. Sounds to me like I should be getting a credit. I have been paying for high speed for 4 years....but they were preventing me from having it.
I'm babysitting at my brother's tonight and decided to speedtest his fios.. And, it looks like I'll be sticking with comcast.
