Any difference between a 4 cyl clutch cable and a 8 cyl CC?

First off, I'll spare the pointless banter;
Car is a frankencar. 91 Mark VII engine, 93 trans, originally a 93 4 cyl car; My suspicion is that after having to replace pilot bearing, TO bearing, clutch and pp, and clutch cable all at the same time, then I got an o'reilly's cable that lasted a few drives, another o'reilly cable that I accidentally melted on the header in 30 seconds, is the 8 cyl cable the wrong cable for the car if it still has a 4 cyl pedal box? I bought the car as a frankencar, so I don't know. I will say that the clutch has WAY TOO much preload, it had no slack whatsoever. This one has me stumped. Anyone know about the difference in the 4 and 8 cyl cables?
