I sprayed down the mid-pipe I welded up for my car the other day with some silver high temperature exhaust paint (1200F) that had Ceramic in it. I was handling the pipe over the last 45-min or so to trying to put it back up into place and I violently broke out into hives?!? The paint is obviously dry, but as with almost all silver paint, some of the residue still comes off in your hands when you touch it.

I haven’t hand anything to eat or drink recently that could have otherwise caused it and I’m wearing the same work clothes I wore when I originally painted it up the other day. My guess is that whatever residue that got onto my hands, was absorbed into my blood stream. I feel fine otherwise, but I’m itching like crazy.

Of course I don’t have any Benadryl around, but I just took some other sort of anti-histamine I found laying around to try to combat the reaction. I think I’m over the worst of it, but I’d wondered if anyone else has experienced anything like this with this or any other kind of paints?

Be careful man, that is nothing to mess around with...

Are you having any trouble breathing?

Nope....no other symptoms. Just hives. Trust me....If I saw anything else coming, I'd be stabbing myself in the thigh with my Epi-pen and driving myself to the hospital, instead of typing about it on Stangnet!

….thanks for the concern though. :)

Thanks, but again.....not the issue. I’ve been in Anaphylactic shock before and know what the symptoms are. That just isn’t the case in this instance.....just annoying, itchy hives. :bang:

Could just be a reaction to the mix of ceramic and paint.

Canadiens....can't even handle paint without issues... Wuss :)

Does the paint actually have real silver in it? Silver makes alot of people have an allergic recation. I didn't know that until a girl i went to school with had a reaction from some silver earrings she was given that day as a gift. I'm allergic to work if that makes you feel any better.

Hope you wore a respirator/mask/ or something. If not, stick a tissue up your nose and you will find a mess.

On a different note, I used a similar paint one time and the fumes were the worst paint fumes I've ever smelled. Smelled worse than reducer, thinner, acetone, and ass mixed together! Gave me a 5-6 hour headache from hell and the paint chipped off after like 2 weeks. :bang:

Was it duplicolor paint? If so, the silver works good but the black chipped off really quick on my truck's exhaust.

That's usually in people who have been exposed to harsh stuff for a long time though...
