I bought this 88 LX a few weeks ago. Been finding a lot of stray unplugged wires. Im trying to piece them back together. This is under the car located under the driver side floorboard. Anyone have an idea what this one is for? Possibly O2 sensor?

Thanks!

I believe that is the plug that connects to the NSS on top of the T5. You might want to connect that.

That's also not where it goes. Someone just stuffed it in that hole in the chassis to keep it from flopping around.

History of the car? Is this a t-5 swap? former 2.3L? etc? Unsure why it would be disconnected as you want to keep the NSS intact to help with dumping codes, and idle logic (the trans switch is wired in parallel with the clutch switch)

What the NSS (Neutral Safety Switch) does:
5 speed transmission: It has no connection with the starter, and the engine can be cranked without it being connected.
Auto transmission: It is the safety interlock that prevents the starter from cranking the engine with the transmission in gear.
What it does for both 5 speed and auto transmission cars:
The computer wants to make sure the A/C is off due to the added load on the engine for the engine running computer diagnostic tests. It also checks to see that the transmission is in Neutral (5 speed and auto transmission) and the clutch depressed (T5, T56, Tremec 3550 & TKO)). This prevents the diagnostics from being run when the car is driven. Key On Engine Running test mode takes the throttle control away from the driver for several tests. This could prove hazardous if the computer was jumpered into test mode and then driven.

See item 6 on the drawing below for the NSS.

Thanks everyone. I'll crawl back under it tonight and take a look at it. This is not a former 2.3L. I know the trans was pulled out of it and rebuilt. Not sure if they didnt just hook everything back up. The history of this car is very very unknown, but if it could talk id bet it would have some stories to tell.... Im not sure if this matters either, but the A/C was deleted by a previous owner.
