Anyone put a 4v 4.6 in a foxbody?

Well the cobra is totaled, but i bought it back from insurance so i have decided to put the cobra motor and trans into my 88GT. Has anyone on here done this before or do you know where i can get more info on the swap? It seems like everyone i talk to says something different. So any info would be much helpfull.

Talk to Greg Flatt at Strictly Performance. He was the first person, or one of them in the country about 10 years ago to do it, and has done it on more than one car. Even though he is listed as a customer, he was their main mechanic for years. The guys put out some of the fastest cars in the country.

I am putting a 2V into a fox body. Same thing. You need all the parts from your Cobra. I am using everything, the harness, dash, seats, seatbelts.....Here are some pics...it is a lot of work. You can use all the factory parts...No need to buy an aftermarket K frame and all the BS!!! You can modify everything to make it work. I have not bought one aftermarket part for my car.

The way I am doing it, you can see all the holes I had to cut in the fox body for the 01 wire harnesses, fuel lines, and things of that nature. I have to cut and shorten that gas tank neck to make work. I used the 01 gas tank....brake lines, ABS unit etc....it has everything an 01 GT has.

Now...if you use the Cobra dash and column...then you must weld a hunk of the 94-04 firewall in the foxbody....it looks liek this. If you cannot do this, you cannot use the newer stuff....you will have to use the fox body column and dash.
This was the biggest dilemna for me....but I had it all done in a few hours.

Also notice the oblonging of the holes for the hyrdro boost. It won't fit in the stock holes where the booster was.

Thanks man your car is turning out great! Great info!:nice: Will you use the pedal assembly from the '01 and if so how hard is that? Also did you have to rebend or cut the fuel line or did it just go in that nicely?

Thanks for the compliment...everything in those pics has been a lot of work, I can't wait until it is running so I can get to the body and paint work...that is what I like more than the mechanical part of it.

To answer your questions: I have the 01 pedal assy installed. It is a must because the rod coming out of the hydroboost unit is bent at a slightly different angle which will not allow the fox pedal assy to work. It is a direct bolt in with the hyrdoboost unit.

The fuel lines?? If that is what you are referring to...the whole brake line and gas line assy and the clips were taken of the 2001 and bolts right into place on the 81. I did NOT have to modify those at all...they followed the body perfectly!!!
The fuel neck..if that is what you are referring to...the neck must have about 3 or 3-1/2 inchs take out of it. I need to trim mine about another 1/2". But I don't have to bend it at all. The reason I have to use it is because the FOX nech is larger in diameter and will not work in the newer tank. I will also have to modify the EVAP metal lines and the plastic box they go into up by the gas door.

Any other questions...just ask..I will help out you with whatever you need.:nice:

actually the first person(s) to-do the Modular inna' Fox was FoMoCo...back in 1993 they built 2 Fox body Mustangs wth DOHC engines...one, a Reef blue Mustang was campaigned by John Mahovich (of Accufab fame) for many years...not sure where that car is today:shrug: and the other one was white and shows-up at some car shows.....just thought you like to know:D

Maximum Motorsports makes some nice K Members as well if you want to go aftermarket. And you can use other things like the interior, RE assembly and brakes depending on how much you have done to your '88.

Props to you for taking on this project, it sounds like a good one and is something I would want to do someday! (When I finally get out of college)...

IT will be worth it for sure. I can't wait until April/May....I will be driving it by then hopefully. MY next project with the car is to install all the 01 wiring and finish the gas neck and turn the key....I hope it runs on the first turn!! It should I didn't modify anything, its just a factory 01 car put into an 81. After that I will figure out what I will do with the door harnesses....
