I'm considering getting a 96-98 Cobra, and was wondering if there was anything specific I should note when looking at one, as far as it's mechanical side goes. I'll be looking for one around the 50K mile mark. Thanks, any help will be appreciated.

On ours (just coming up on 60k) the only problems we've had are the ubiquitous broken rear sway bar and the seized up, squeaking outer tie rod ends.

My '97 has just under 50,000 miles. No problems except a noisy throwout bearing.

I have heard of overheating 96's but that should have been fixed by now. Other than that just check over it really good. test drive it and open it up, go to the redline, and give it a good 1 to 2 shift. You could always pull a plug, and check the oil. Good luck. I bought one in dec. with 96000 on it, runs awesome.

there isn't really a way to check..but the biggest problem with these cars are the IMRC's. The get all full of crap and the actuator will stick and your secondaries will not open up and then the 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me' will start....

here's a write up on how to clean them www.flash.net/~ivc1/cobra/imrc.html
