Pump Failure

A loud whining or kind of a high pitch grinding from bellhousing area is commen in pump or converter failure. Low line pressure would result also and most likely the unit would slip in all ranges at least under heavy throttle.

The front pump is about $160 from the dealer. You basically have to drop the transmission from the car and pull the converter and then remove the 6 bolts and press the cover off using those very same 6 boltholes threaded with larger bolts.

At that point, you should just rebuild the AOD yourself cause you've already done the difficult part

Yup.

Oh,then get mad and say "Piece of crap" and put a C4 in istead :) .

No c4!

Even with 2.73 gears, you'd be pulling almost 2800 on the highway going 80. With 3.73's, you'll be pulling something like 3800. Use this link:

The c4 is much lighter and stronger but it's really limiting for a streetcar.

The catch could be a broken anti-rattle spring in the AOD case. Theyre near the top of the case and if they fall out, the AOD innards move a bit when going to direct drive and make a clunk.
