This website has the progression of the 5.0 H.O. Looks like the last time the block itself was actually improved upon was in 1986.

"Stronger block (126 lb.) incorporating 'squared bores' for better oil control."

yeah Rick 91GT just PMed me back and said that the 85/86 blocks tend to be a little stronger.

Now with the tranny, if you take the EZ9R in the code, that would stand for
'89 mustang, manual transmission right?

Ok now can anyone tell me, or find out any more information on this transmission? Here is everything that is on the tag:
E9ZR-7008-AA REP AU
13-52-184 27176K1492

Again thanks to everyone, this was driving me nuts!!!

I can't find a reliable resource for those tranny numbers. What can you tell us abotuthe engine it was attached too? Was it carb'd or TBI fuel injected or SEFI?

What's the differences between the 2.3L trannys and 5.0s?

Can't take as much torque and have smaller input shaft diameter. Exterior dimensions are the same. Some guys race with them. I know a guy that has made over 200 NOS runs with one behind a pretty strong 302. Other guys break them right away. So  how long it'll last.
