The steelers defense was also supposed to shut down arizona in the Superbowl. While they still won not quite what everyone was expecting. IMO a Tom Brady led offense w/ the weapons he has would have pwnt the steelers that night.

I never thought for 1 second that the Superbowl was gonna be a blowout. Arizona had so many receiver weapons that you could not ignore. I had Warner as my Fantasy Football QB and I watched some of their games. He never fully utilized all his receiver threats until later in the season. Arrington and Breaston came on strong late, so you had Boldin, Fitzgerald, Breaston, and Arrington.

Pittsburgh was gonna win that game the same way they won all year. Tough, gritty, and sometimes, last minute.
Say what you want about woulda coulda shoulda, it didn't happen and there are plenty of factors that go into that. Pittsburgh woulda chewed up the NE defence like they did earlier in the year

Excellence comes in all forms but if Tom had to pay D then he would.

Well having brady does impact the defense in a indirect way.. chuck you know football... I don't think I need to point out how the play of a offensive unit impacts the defense.

    But I will anyways

Football is a game of field position.. when your Offense is going three and out or even worse turning the ball over even a good defense will look bad.. In the patriots case they have a so so defense to begin with so when cassel failed as bad as he did in that game the steelers were easily able to exploit the weaknesses in the defense with a very short field.

Cassel could not keep the offense on the field against a good defense like the steelers have, he also had spectacular failures against the chargers and dolphins and played poorly against other decent defenses. One of the things that would have changed with brady at the helm in that game is the patriots would have had much longer time consuming drives. That allows a mediocre defense to look ok.

For example the 2007 patriots defense statistically was a hell of a lot better than it really was.. That was because the offense was SO good that nobody got a chance to expose that defense. Long patriot drives, combined with most of the 2007 season teams being down 20-30 points early did not allow a opposing team to stick to a game plan that would be effective.

In 2008 the cassel led offense was not that good.. In fact it was horrible against good defensive teams. So in those games the defense was seriously exposed.

the pats/steelers game in 2007 shows that.. pretty much the same team but without brady and the difference is HUGE

    You're right, I do.

....Mike you know football....I don't think I need to point this out, but I will anyway; every game is different. Hence the term "Any given Sunday".

    :p

Lets say Pats with Brady in the SB last year versus the Steelers (I know this is impossible due to conference). I still think the Steelers win a nitty gritty game that comes down to a final drive.

All the Pats D had to do that year was sit back and wait for a pass to come their way.

Even with a healthy Brady you are not gonna see another year like that

Yeah I agree a record setting year like 07 is not very likely.. but they should be the top offense in the NFL.. I am deeply concerned about the patriots defense. I know many have the pats as a big favorite to win the SB but I am not so sure..

Yeah any given sunday was proven by the giants in SB42, and the patriots in SB36 or the jets in SB3

You never know... but going by recent history with brady on the field I think the patriots can handle them.

That's completely messed up, I was watching ESPN at work. Something is definitely fishy about this. McNair was a great QB

I can hardly wait for the season to begin. I'd like to see how the new kids the Giants got play. I actually watch the pre-season games when possible.

Yeah but Mike, it seems to be a successful strategy.
