2003 Cobra SVT w/ 13K miles on it. Aggressive driving, some track (1/4 miles) but nothing to bad. Start the car Thursday morning, noticed some knocking in the clutch, and a little vibration in the clutch pedal. Get about a mile down the road; the vibration and noise are really bad, turn around, drive to the dealer. (Sunnyvale Ford, CA)
My service rep writes up the ticket, says this might not be warranty because I went thru the first set of tires in 10K miles, so I must be abusing the car. Blah, the stock tires are crap I said.
Went down on Friday, talked to the tech working on the car (Scott), he shows me the tranny. The rod coming out of the tranny proper to the clutch is supposed to have a cylindrical casing around it, forged as part of the tranny case. This has sheared off clean as a whistle. I could not even tell there was supposed to be a piece there until he showed me. Scott said the housing then slammed back and forth between the tranny and the clutch, denting everything.
He is going to order a whole new tranny and clutch, and it will be a warranty repair. Scott said it was very rare for Ford to replace the friction plate in a clutch but he didn't get any grief when he told the factory what happened. I'll get the car back Wednesday or Thursday.

Has anybody else had a problem with the T56? I thought these things were bulletproof.

    Craig
