Hey guys, I am in the process of replacing the stock radio in my 93 vert. I have got it already to go in but the mounting panel they gave me has an opening for an EQ unit that i don't use and it takes the place of where the cubbyhole was. I would love to keep that option. Is there another mounting panel that would give me a cubby back? Thanks for the read.
I have done this in my '93. The trick is to use the stock pocket instead of an aftermarket kit. Remove it from your stock sterio and you'll find two mounting holes on the back of it. set it in it's original location and you'll see that these holes are in close proximity to the studs where the center console mounts. Build brackets (I used heavy guage plummers strap.) to attach the back of the pocket to these studs. once it is all lined up and secured, it leaves a perfect opening for your aftermarket sterio. And you dont have to drill holes in the face of your center console!!! You could reverse the operation if you ever wanted to go back to stock.
Thanks for the reply. I was looking at the stock one but it seemed like it was rivited or something. I will take another look.
I tired but couldn't seem to see how it would work so for now I'm using the mounts that i got with it. I already miss the cubby and haven't even driven it yet.
