Last year I had a speciatly shop :bs: ($$$) shop replace a gear in the trip odom because it wasnt working.

I noticed today that BOTH the trip odom and the Odom are not working. I havent really taken the car out a lot in the past month, but in the beginning of October I had a front end alignment after putting in the C/C plates.

Is there anything that could have been bumped/broken/loosened/removed, etc, while they did the FE alignment that could have messed up both the odometers?

If not, what else could I check as the cause?

Its super easy to take the cluster assembly out to check. Ill give you a step by step if you want it.

I would appreciate that...I would ask for it in a PM, but If you post it here, maybe others may benefit.

    Thanks

    Ok here it goes.

Remove the headlight nob. If you pull it out you should see a little hole on the shaft (get your mind out of the gutter perv). There is a little tab in there that you have to depress to pull the nob off. Ok, so take the nob off

Remove the retaining screws from the top of the cluster's trim panel. After you get the screws out, your not done. There are some tabs holding it in. Just apply some even gentle pressure and pull it out.

remove the mounting screws from the cluster. There is quite a few of em. They are torx heads i believe.

Pull the cluster out. There will be 2 harnesses that you will need to unplug on the back of the cluster. Just press down the tab on the top of them and pull them out of their sockets.

After you get the cluster assembly out, take off the plastic/glass cover. Then you can take out each guage pod. It is seperated into 3 pods. Just yank em out.

I probably confused the hell out of everybody, but its hard to describe somthing like this. Its very straight forward. Im a dumbass, and I took mine out and put in a new one in about 20 mins.

This part we have down...We put in those White gauges.. I thought you had instructions on specifically removing the gear cluster.

Jason..Im not sure. Remember I had a post about the Speed-o stuck at about 35 MPH, and we chalked it up to the thing being stuck? Well, I hadnt had a chance to fix that, and when I took out the car and noticed the ODO, I also noticed the Speed-o was back to zero....I thought "good", but when the car was in motion, IT didnt move either.. All my other gauges work. I still think that the Speed-o is stuck, but Im wondering if we did something electronically that woould make the odom stop.

I talked to my general mechanic today. He said that since all that $hit (my words) is connected, the fact that the speed-o has not been moving (stuck on the WFG could have possibly caused the gearing to get stripped.

WHen I get the chance...Ill take the cluster off and look at the gears.

let mek now...... i have an extra for mine that was in the parts car i had, so it would just be a matter of swapping everything over........ only thing is that car had well over 100k and mine doesn't.....just sucks having to pull all that out again, esp. since my speedo still works, i have been avoiding it.

It may be a couple of weeks before I get to this...I dont drive the car regularly, and IM working on some landscape projects, then I have the Christmas lights to do...Having a hoopty has slowed my work down on the stang.

read my previous post. the power/signal for the speedo/odo/trip is off the same source. if the speedo is working, the gear is bad!

I had the same problem. My Speedo and Odometer/Trip would work intermittently. It was my vehicle speed sensor. I just cleaned the connections coming from the VSS from the tranny and it worked great after that. You might check the VSS.
