I just filled my car up with 93 octane and almost immediately after the CEL came on. When i got home I ran XCAL 2, and the DTC came back with these codes. Which states the AF ratio is too rich. What could have caused this? Thanks
No it has had the same 93 octane tune since installed the CAI months ago. Could it be the Gas? I would think if it were bad gas it would run lean, But what do i know I am still a novice at this stuff. Any help would be appreciated.
Uh...in this case no...lol...any suggestions. On how to fix, usually i would think to swap tunes, but wouldn't going to a 91 or 87 make it worse? Again not sure?
I fully believe that the fact that the codes were set at the time you filled up with gas was purely coincidental. You need to check fuel pressure and check the intake tract for blockage of some sort.
Google the P0172-p0175 codes,P0172 Bank 1 to rich,P0175 Bank 2 rich. For some reason a/f ratio with the tune you have must be on the hairy side of rich. Atleast it's not P0171 orp174 which are Banks to lean, probable not to much to worry about.Clear the codes and see what happens.Run the tank down and fiil up with a differnt brand of gas.Rich is better than to lean. My Two cents worht.
First thing I did was check the intake for leaks or blockage didn't find anything. How would i check the fuel pressure?
That is what i was thinking. Maybe i should clear the codes and see if it comes back and if so then maybe i could just bump the timing a degree. I contacted JTI and he is going to see about sending me a leaner tune, but i don't really want to go leaner until I am sure that it is need. Better to rich than lean
Where did you get your gas from?? The same exact thing happened to me this morning. I got home and pulled the codes and P0172 and P0175 showed up. I haven't been able to really check it out, I had to go to work. But when I got home I ran it for a few minutes and popped the hood and I smelled a weird smell. It's also coming from the exhaust....
I got my gas from Shell. I have put about 1000 miles since i reset the codes and they haven't come back. I have noticed a smell from my exhaust (smells like fuel), but since the codes haven't comeback and I haven't seen any other problems (MPG or performance) I am not really going to sorry about it.
