Charge Light flickers upon peak revving?

Been awhile since I have asked a question on here but this one has me stumped. I noticed when I am getting on the accelerator that right before I shift the battery/charge light would flicker. I thought maybe I had an alternator issue and the belt was slipping on the pulley. Well I measured the voltage at idle and I have 14.17. When I had my wife at idle rev up at around 4,000 RPM the light comes on everytime. The thing is that the voltage never changes from 14.17. Even when you have the headlights on the battery voltage changes to around 14 or so. My theory is that the light is tied into the AMPERAGE of the system and I am actually loosing current through bad diode/regulator in the alternator to ground causing this problem. Anyone seen this? Its not like I am having dead battery issues or anything. I just hate that flickering.
