Cleaning Engine

Does anyone have any procedures of how they clean their engine?
I figure to cover the air filter, alternator, and fuse box. However, i am still worried about the COP's. Does anyone have a way of protecting these? or should i not be worried. (I dont plan to spray the COP's directly...duh!)

So far, this is what i was thinking,
-Cover the filter, alternator, fuse box.
-Spray everything down (almost everything) with a degreaser. (Purple Power)
-Let it sit and do its work for about 15 min.
-Then rinse off with a hose (i have a pressure controlled nozzle)
-Turn the engine on a bit for it to dry off.
-Wipe off any extra water.

Im not to worried about getting that "Shine" to it, but i want it clean. There is going to be a little car show tomorrow, so i want her to look pretty dam good.

If there is any other helpful tips please let me know, only thing i am worried about is getting the COP's messed up.

Thank You

The way I protect my COPs is to make sure that the boots are well conditioned and lubed with silicone spray. Clean them first and spray them with silicone, wipe off excess. This will help them seal.

Then after cleaning visually inspect the plug wells for water and remove any that is there.

When you spray the degreaser make sure you do not get any into the air intake in the cowl for the heater or you will smell it forever.
