Clear Over Primer?

I was planning and a nice two tone black/dsg paintjob..... But after primering... I lovethe look of primer! I was woundering if anyone here has ever put clear over just primer, and also wondering how it looked? I was thinking now maybe even a black primer over a grey primer two tone .

Why not just use a satin-sheen paint? Same effect, really.

Mainly because I have already shot the primer, and if I dont need the paint, I wont go w/ it

You cant just shoot a clear coat over old dried paint... primer or not. Im not even sure a clear coat will make a primer look right, why not just paint it a similar grey??

true, find a shade thats close and maybe even jazz it up with a little bit of flake...it would be like metallic primer!!

i personally think primer is too drab on a car that i'd like to have a little style. I dont even like driving my car when its dirty nevermind not having any shine at all lol.

My cousin over in Alabama has a saying about primer "No shine is fine" As a painter I can tell you I have seen it done but I would suggest paint

I just finished primming t he car today.... eh... to many color choices to make a choice... Guess i'll have to wait untill I see something I can do, and I like

You can but the color will fade as it is not designed to block UV, yes the clear will block UV but the color will defiantly fade. Another alternative is to pick a color close to the primer and apply a matte finish clear over the car to achieve the "primer" look.

I remember for a few years Chryslers were comming in that grey color that looked just like primer with clear over it.

Krikers sells a product called hot rod black. I believe it is a matte black finish with UV protection. Looks awufully close to primer. They might have something for the grey.
