ok so when i get on the gas pretty good (about 3/4 down)
the tach goes from like 1500 to about 3000 real quick
it seems (to me) like the clutch is still somewhat engaged
and needs to be adjusted
not to mention the shifter feels soooo stiff
what do you guys think??

It sounds like it might be clutch time. If both symptoms are clutch-related, they are on opposite ends of the adjustment spectrum.

When you said the shifter felt stiff, I assume this means it's tough to get into gear. True?

Where is the point of engagement? If near the floor, that indicates that you could take up some slack in the cable. Having the clutch engage on the floor is how you'd set it up to minimize the chance of it slipping.

If a clutch is slipping, it can be because of contamination (rear main seal leak, etc) or a pressure plate defect. Neither are necessarily related to miles on the part.

it doesnt slip at all

I'm confused now.

And you can't compare a 15+ year old car's clutch feel (with non-new components) to that of a new-ish S197.

holy hell, he did list that, LOL

it's BORED .30, and that's NOT a mod!!!!!

stiff shifting on first and second gear is usually your clutch adjustment too loose. Now, you mention a super stiff clutch... you probably have your cable routed, or it's bad. This will cause a stiff pedal. YOu need to check your cable, the routing, and the adjustment.

I wrote the bible on this, click on the link in my sig for clutch adj info
