Strangely enough it's the 94-98 engine that puts out the most power when modded.
If you go to www.v6power.net you'll see about all of the +500hp V6's got the 94-98 engine

As for the '94-'98 V6es putting out more power when modded, is it possible that the '99+ cars simply have not been modded to the same scale?
Think about it, you buy a '94 V6 for $2k, or buy a '99 for $7k. Who is going to have more money to play with?
People buy the older cars and pull the drivetrains out and start from scratch. People buy the newer cars, and slap duals and a CAI on them and drive them to work.
