I'll say. It should cost you about half that. That's even high if they're the ones supplying the gears!?!

Take it somewhere else...preferably not to a dealer.

    Yeah, that is outrageous, lol.

I paid $350 for my install, and that included replacing all the bearings and rebuilding the trac-lok while it was apart.

I supplied gears, bearings, and lube.

It is high, but then again you got a quote from the dealer, which is about normal.

Take it to a performance shop or a 4x4 shop. Normal install pricing should be 200-275ish.

I paid $500 total for mine including me buying the gears, the DMP Speedcal, new bearing overhaul kit, fluid and the labor.

I paid 370 for labor to have the gears, bearings, trac-lok, and aluminum driveshaft swapped (the aluminum driveshaft install sucks for automatics because you have to swap the yokes).

They'll bend you over - now given that some dealers are better than others - they may not even honor their own work afterwards if you get the whine. 4 X 4 shops FTW!

That is actually a fair "dealership" price. They are going by their hours and hourly rate. It is crazy for someone to go into a dealership to ask for that kind of work to begin with.

Haha....DONT DO IT!! I paid $100 (plus a car detail) for gears and install. Everyone wants a clean ride!:D

I probably got the best deal on this board! But try trading services, you never know what you can offer someone, and they need. I always ask people that kind of question first. Call me cheap but it works!

I was gonna get a rear gear put in my car but the three places i called near me all wanted 400+ just for the labor. Which put me around 750 or so for parts and everything. I think some places have more competition than others. Plus i have a lot of rich areas near me so i am sure that has a lot to do with it as well.

Dont go to a dealer. A performance shop would be better. I paid 175 at Mustang Magic.
