Look at our economy and our jobs, it isn't pretty. But aren't we(the american people) to blame for part of this terrible economy? All we care about is short term gains/profits and not worry about what happens in the long run. Wal-mart is a great example of it. I wonder how many products they sell that are actually built/made in/by the American work force? Everybody wants low prices. So much to the point where everybody will flock to Walmart because they will be cheaper on the products we buy. They don't even care that there made in china or japan, but all they see is the price tag. Sure you saving a few bucks or more, but really all your doing is giving your support to overseas. And with almost everybody supporting overseas products, it forces companys that once used the american work force labor to build products to look overseas and to send there business overseas just so that they can compete with Walmart and such businesses that manufactor overseas. Now is Walmart to blame? No, we are. They just sell the products, its the fools fault who buys them. They just put the cookie in front of our eyes, they don't force us to buy from them. And you always here people saying things like, "What isn't made in china these days?" I mean all were doing is sending everything we once had(or maybe never had) overseas. And we wonder why these other countries have booming economys. They have their entire country businesses working there and half of the United States businesses there supporting them and their work force. I dont' think we actually realize just how important it is to buy things that are made in America. Unless people really do start buying things that are made in America, i don't see how things will ever turn around. Things will only get worse and worse as more jobs are shipped overseas. And at this point, half of all the things we buy are made their now. So do we stop buying the things we always have bought in the past? I beg to differ. I know you can't afford the things you really want. But back on topic. Say that when you lose your job or somebody close to you does to the overseas.

Very well put. WalMart is a huge part of what is happening to manfacturing in this country and they are destroying the small towns they build in. I would be willing to bet that 95% or more of the crap they sell comes from China. Personally, I refuse to shop there. I lived in a small town about 10 years ago when they built a WM. I watched local business after local business get run out of business within a year of it opening. Everything from jewellers to a bike shop to a pet store. None of them could compete with WM's prices. WM came in claiming that they were going to bring jobs. Yeah, jobs all right. All of them minimum wage and almost all of them part-time. What a joke. WalMart is evil.
Well if wall mart is evil then so is Home depot and Lowes. I try to buy american whenever I can, with some things you have no choice. I feel we here in the USA we will pay for not doing the right thing. We need to learn to boycott and that will get things done, just stop and think before you buy.

I personally believe this whole thing has been blown out of proportion by liberal induced media hype. I make and american product in an american manufacturing facility and I will sit pretty and continue to draw my american paycheck until Obama redistributes all my hard earned wealth. most likely to people that are buying products from overseas.

It is true that when WalMart comes to town, particularly small towns, it drives a lot of other business out. Since Super WalMart opened here in Milan, TN, the only other option in town for groceries (food) is EW James. At EW James you can count on paying twice as much for your purchases as you do at WalMart. While some people still go there (myself included) for the bakery stuff they make in the store, or some odd product they have that WalMart doesn't, most people wont, and probably can't afford to, pay twice as much WEEKLY for food. My grocery bill at WalMart averages about $150 a week, which would be about $300 at EW James. Over the course of a year, that's a difference of $7800. Now, consider this, imagine for arguments sake the that average consumer purchases a new car every five years. If you had equivalent vehicles, one American made and one foreign made, would you be willing to pay an additional $39K for the American made vehicle? Could most people afford to? 7800 x 5 = 39000. See what I'm saying?
people keep pissing and moaning that wal mart or nafta or some other big company is sending jobs overseas, or some such crap like that. the reality is that taxes on corporations are some of the highest in the world. taxes on corporate profits in thos country are at 35%, and obama wants to push them higher. and then there are the unions that keep pushing for much higher wages, and more benefits, and then tying wages to the minimum wage. so we have government taxing businesses to death, and we have the unions pricing themselves out of the job market. and when wal mart does come to town, the mom and pops that go out of business, were likely going down anyway, and all wal mart did was expedite things. but wal mart does do good things for hte communities they build in, they increase the tax base because MORE people are put to work, and they also pay MORE in taxes than the mom and pops collected. and with the lower prices, the cost of living actually goes down making things easier for the average person. and before you claim that higher tariffs would help the american economy, put that thought out of your head now, because if the US puts higher tariffs on products coming into the US, other countries will put higher tariffs on products coming from the US thus making them cost more, and fewer people will buy US products overseas. in years past the US economy supported the world, and was the biggest economy by far. today however we have globalization, and we have growing economies around the world. if we are going to compete in the world economy, we have to make changes in the way we do business, and that will cause us some pain for a while. but in the end we will be the better for it. we can still be a capitalist country, but we will have to lower our wages, so that we can lower our prices to other countries. we may even have to live with slightly lower profit margins in some areas.
I admit I am part of the problem. I do a lot of shopping in WalMart when I know that despite being the largest employer in the US, they are seriously bad for our economy.
just got back from walmart. spent 282 bux on groceries. nothing else except 2 magazines. at the other store we buy in smaller quantity during the week that same 282 would have been right around 400 bux, but hey they load your groceries in your car
