04 Autos had the 3.55s, manuals still had 3.27s im pretty sure.

I was told by a ford mech that both windsors and romeos had 6 bolt mains. Is he right or wrong??? He wasn't tryin' to sell anything, neither did it seem like he was BS'in me

According to Ford's computer you cannot get 3:55's in a GT. This is the computer that locates and builds Ford's to order. Talked to two friends at two seperate Ford dealers. One is a General Sales Manager that orders all the cars. I'll believe it when I see it.

99's and 00's have a windsor engine with different heads that make a lower compression ratio. The 01's and newer have romeo engines with the higher c/r. The 99's and 00's have the t-45 transmission and the 01's and newer have te 3650 tranny, which a lot of people complain about. People have a lot of grinding problems with them. This is a start for you anyway...

According to ford racing, if the 8th character is (x) then its a windsor built with 8 bolt flywheel. If the 8th character in the vin is (W) then its a Romeo built engine with a 6 both flywheel.

When did you check the computer? Did you check it for the 2004 model year automatics?

I had a 00GT. Tt had a bullit proof tranny (T5), and the engine was real strong. Ran 13.663 bone stock. The engine was smooth and strong sounding.

I now have a 02GT. I have gone through 2 trannies (T-3650 POS). My warranty is void. The engine doesn't feel as grunty down low, but is still strong. I notice it sounds a bit more mechanical vs smoother (marginal sound difference). The car ran a 13.77 bone stock.

The cargo net in the ceiling of the 02+ GT was really a neat thing for me (gave me a place to stuff my wallet) til my credit cards started warping due to the heat. Of course being in FL and having a black car probably don't help, but it happened during 60 degree days too!
The Tremec manual transmission found in some 01s and all 02 on up is a much stonger unit than the previous T45, but I'm sure some will debate this issue, as apparently many have had problems with theirs. No problems here with mine and I like it more than my wife's T45...just my 2 cents.

Right... I'm gonna call on this one. First of all the t5 is far from bullet proof, and i wanna know where the hell you got your GT from, if I could find a stock GT that ran 13.6 stock i'd buy 2...

I haven't seen any info indicating that any 99-04 gt's have 3.55's. The 05's will have 3.55's. As far as the info I've seen on 99 to 04, the only gt's with 3.55 gear ratios are the mach 1 and cobra.

Damn LizardKing, are you sure your 00GT was stock, or did you buy it from something thinking it was stock. 13.66 is sick for a stock GT. Any videos like you said?

ok-not going to say this is perfectly right, but straight from the ford racing catalog (2004) Page 42: The description for the "cast 4.6L crankshaft" (new) says (word for word):

M-6303-c46**

>New current production Romeo 4.6L SOHC 2V cast iron crankshaft

>Great for low cost engine builds.

>4.6L engines may have 6- or 8-bolts to attach to the crankshaft. Check the engine code before ordering. Romeo built engines have 6-bolts and Windsor built engines have 8-bolts.
All Cobra engines have 8-bolts. The 8th character in the VIN is (X) for Windsor engine plant or (W) for Romeo engine plant.

Again on page 116 in the catalog, the manual transmission flywheel section it again states in subnotes at the bottom left corner:

(2) 4.6L engines may have 6- or 8- bolts to attach to the crankshaft. Check the engine code before ordering. Romeo built engines have 6-bolts and Windsor engines have 8-bolts. All Cobra engines have 8-bolts.

I will email mmff this week and give you confermation that that was a typo. Because I went to the Ford Dealership where there were two white aniversary ed and both were auto and neither had 3.55 they both had 3.27 gears and from every other gt we looked at 5spd or auto NONE were equiped with 3.55 rear ends. I even went to the service department and got the manuals that ford sends the technicians and there was no option for 3.55 gears in any of the gts we found 99-04. SO THERE ARE NO 3.55 GEARS IN ANY 04GTS THAT ARE STOCK FROM FACTORY.

Clear headlights on '99 and '00 GT's and smoked lights on '01-up. Also, I don't know what year it started, but my '03 has that silly cargo net on the headliner and the ealier cars don't.
