Getting ready to disassemble for intake/head swap. I always prefer to drain the block completely of coolant before pulling the heads. However, my block drain plugs look pretty corroded and I suspect them to give me trouble.

Is there another way to empty the block to at least below the deck height other than pulling the block plugs? Will removing the lower radiator hose from the water pump get the coolant low enough? I just hate the coolant spilling all over and into the cylinders when the head is pulled off.

Thanks in advance for replies.

Good idea. Shop vac. Done deal. I guess that will also work for the grit that falls into cylinders when cleaning the deck off.

I know the work I have to do is not that big a deal but Iv'e been so busy and haven't set aside time to do it. This is why I've decided to just take the cat out of service and begin the disassemble. If anything, soon enough I'll long to drive the car and that will light the fire under my feet to get it done.
