When you pull the headlight switch out to the second position (headlights) the parking lights go off. They are only turned on when the switch is pulled out to the first position.

The best way to wire driving light power is to use an "ignition on" power source to switch on a relay that uses direct battery power for the auxiliary lights.

I used a ignition on "hot" wire to power a relay for the driving lights. In that hot wire, I placed another dimmer switch which I mounted to the floor above and to the inside of the normal one. Everything is fused also. Most of the older cars have park lights that are off in the headlight position. Just the way things were done in those days.
