egr block off in intake

I was just reading the threads on the block off of the coolant lines to the tb and everyone said to block off the ports in the intake. I removed my smog pump and blocked off the ports on the heads. Does this do the same thing? Also looking at the egr removal kit, will this eliminate all of the egr stuff?
