Engine Off Center

I just cut a hole in my stock hood yesterday to make clearance for the 351. When I measured the air cleaner stud to the sides of the hood opening I discovered that the engine is 7/8" off center. What would cause this to happen? The engine appears to be level and the fan looks to be centered in the fan shroud. I am a tad bit confused at this point.

is the motor straight? check the driveline to see if the tranny and driveshaft is straight...my buddy bought a car and your could tell by looking at the motor it wasnt straight..so we loosened up the transmission crossmember and the tranny mount and moved it to where it should have been...maybe yours is off a little bit.
