Exhaust tip placement

This may be a question dependent on taste but I thought I would ask your opinions. I recently put a dual exhaust valance on my 70 Mach 1. I got some stock style chrome tips for it but was wondering how far they should stick out of the rear valance. What do you guys think? Pics would be helpful. A couple of inches? Are they straight cut or angle cut? I think if straight then no more than 3 inches or so should be sticking out and if angled then maybe 1-2 inches past where the bottom of the cut meets the valance. I don't like when the tips stick out obnoxiously far, just far enough that you're not steam cooking your paint....
