FACTORY C/C PLATE ADJUSTMENT

What do you find when you remove the factory plates? Is the strut tower slotted at all? Are one or both of the plates slotted? How large is the over all opening in the top of the tower? Is it possible to modify the tower with elongated slots or a similiar method?

I have about 1/2 inch of room from plate flange to inner wall of tower to gain some camber back. Has anyone else done this to retain stock plates.
